Our milestone

In the heart of Singapore's trade and transport industry, a legacy was born.

  1. Since the founding of the nation in 1819, numerous transport companies had thrived. Smaller but determined firms like Chuan Pu Company, Seng Hong Company, and Joo Hup Company decided to unite. They envisioned an association that would champion their trade, create opportunities, and voice their concerns to the government.

  2. On August 31, 1937, their vision became a reality when they formed the Singapore Lorry Owners Association. The esteemed Joo Hup Company took the helm as the first Chairman. For years, they called 11 New Bridge Road their home.

  3. Progress demanded relocation to 25 Lor 27A Geylang Road, causing inconvenience to loyal members who longed for a place of their own. Their dream was costly, but fate intervened. Goldbell Engineering donated $60,000 and Mr. Lim Quee Huat of Allied Container Services contributed $20,000. Others joined in, their generosity painting a brighter future.

  4. The Singapore Lorry Owners Association purchased an office at 49B Guillemard Road for $420,000. After fifty glorious years, it was ready for a new chapter.

  5. Under the leadership of Mr. Ng Boon Hong, Hon. Secretary of STA, a new name was chosen during the Annual General Meeting in 2003 — the Singapore Transport Association. With a global vision and renewed spirit, the association set sail toward a future filled with promise, continuing to shape the industry and touch the hearts of its members.

  6. The STA STANDARD TRADING CONDITIONS was revealed to members at the SAFRA Bukit Merah Auditorium. From this launch, members are now able to consult and comply to the guidelines stated within the STA STANDARD TRADING CONDITIONS during the drafting of contracts with their clients, to better safeguard their interests.

  7. The STA STANDARD TRADING CONDITIONS is published in the Straits Times and Lian He Zhao Bao (联合早报) on 13 Jun 2007.
